About Pasig City
Home to the Pasig River, Pasig was formerly a rural settlement but is currently progressing towards an industrial, residential and commercial community. Found in Pasig City are the Pasig Boulevard, Capitol Commons, Pasig City Revolving Tower, Estania Mall, and Ortigas Center.
Pasig City is lined with the banks of the Bitukang Manok River, which is nearing extinction today. It was named so because it meant “Chicken Gut,” This represented the waterway’s serpentine shape. Its first stretch played a vital role in the trade of Chinese and Malay merchants with early Filipinos.
Filipino Actors Hero Angeles, John Lloyd Cruz, and Fortunato “Atoy” Co Jr. have resided in Pasig City. Born from poverty, Jovito Salonga was a World War II hero of Pasig, leader against Ferdinand Marcos and the 14th President of the Senate of the Philippines.
