About Surigao Del Norte
Dubbed as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines because of Siargao, Surigao del Norte is responsible for introducing and popularizing Surfing in the country. Beginners and Experts alike enjoy the waves of Siargao, especially in Cloud 9. The famous Palm Tree Road gives many picturesque, tropical views of this island.
This province was once part of an old area found in Northeastern Mindanao called “Caraga,” and so its inhabitants were called the Calagans, who were said to be from the Visayas.
Francisco Jose Matugas II, a politician, Jude Gitamondoc, an awarded musical director, and Ingemar Macarine, an environmental lawyer, come from this province.
