About Misamis Occidental
Misamis Occidental is a province that offers its tourists both nature and history. Found in this province are the stunning Piduan Curtain Falls, Baliangao Sunrise Beach, Hoyohoy Highland Mountain Park, and the Aquamarine Park, which is home to several native animals.
Locals say that “Misamis” comes from the word “Kuyamis,” a sweet coconut variety that early settlers found in the area. The first Spaniards that set foot on Misamis were Recollect Missionaries. However, they left when the Philippine Revolution took place and, by 1896, wholly abandoned missionary activity.
Born in Misamis Occidental were Hasset Go, a celebrity chef, Cherry Lou Maglasang, an actress, and Ruel Antipuesto, a cinematographer nicknamed “The Godfather of Cebuano Filmmaking.”
