About Occidental Mindoro

Occidental Mindoro is the Marine Wonderland of Luzon because of the marine beauty it is bestowed with, reflected in the presence of its beautiful, white-sand beaches, virgin forests, and ambiance rich in marine life, waterfalls and coral gardens. The most extensive coral reef system can be visited by divers in the Apo Reef Natural Park.

During the earliest settlements, Mindoro Island was referred to as “Ma-i” and formally called and known to the Chinese traders as “Mait.” Mait, was in fact, mentioned in the old Chinese Chronicles in 775 A.D.

From Occidental Mindoro are Eisen Bernardo, a graphic designer and illustrator, Durian Francisco, the “Golden Fist,” and Carlos Loyzaga, a Basketball player and coach.
