About Oriental Mindoro
Nicknamed as the Rice Granary and Fruit Basket of Southern Tagalog, Oriental Mindoro is rich in produce. People visit for the serene Talipanan Beach, peaceful Bulalacao Island, and specifically in March because of the Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival.
Once part of one province with Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro became an individual province in 1950 and retained Calapan as its capital. It was a very underpopulated area, so programs were made that in 1956, they ended as more than 3000 people migrated to Mindoro.
The well-known anchorman of ABS-CBN, Noli de Castro, actress Karen Reyes, and composer Joy Nilo were born in Oriental Mindoro.
