About Zambales
When it comes to Chromite, the Philippines is considered to be blessed with this resource, and this is mainly because of Zambales, thus the nicknaming of the province as the Chromite Capital of the Philippines. Other than Chromite, Zambales is known for the Scarborough Shoal, a part of its territory, and its festivals, such as the Zambales Mango Festival, to celebrate the bountiful mango harvest.
Aetas were the first to dwell in this province. Juan de Salcedo, a Spanish conquistador, explored the area in 1572. The earliest towns founded were Subic, Botolan, Masinloc, Iba, and Santa Cruz.
Notable people from Zambales are former president Ramon Magsaysay, actor Gerald Anderson, child actor known for his role in Honesto, Raikko Mateo, and Teodoro Yango, who was nicknamed “Father of the YMCA of the Philippines” because he was the longest-serving YMCA president in the country.
