About Valenzuela City
Named after Pio Valenzuela, a valuable member of Katipunan, and of the Katipunan triumvirate, Valenzuela City is known as the “Northern Gateway to Metropolitan Manila.” Pio Valenzuela is remembered for his role as a physician and the printer of Ang Kalayaan, the organization’s official newspaper.
Since 2002, July 11 has been celebrated as Valenzuela Day to commemorate the hero. Other than this holiday, The Feast of San Diego de Alcala takes place with boat racing, food festivals, and joyous activities. Found in the city is the Tagalag Fishing Village, dubbed as the city’s “best-kept secret,” Arkong Bato, and the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima.
To top the list of notable individuals from Valenzuela City other than the hero behind its namesake are Danilo Concepcion, the 21st President of the University of the Philippines, Ford Valencia, the Pinoy Boyband Superstar, and Win Gatchalian, a politician, and businessman.
