SSS registration is no longer just a recommendation — it is a mandatory digital gateway for every Filipino worker to secure social protection. Pursuant to the Social Security Act of 2018 (RA 11199), the system has fully transitioned to an online-first model to ensure faster processing and lifetime portability of records.

Who is Eligible for SSS Registration?
Coverage is divided into two main categories: Compulsory and Voluntary.
1. Compulsory Coverage (Mandatory)
- Private Sector Employees: All employees under 60 years old, including “Kasambahays” (household help).
- Self-Employed/Freelancers: Individuals earning at least ₱5,000 monthly from their own business or profession.
- Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs): Both land-based and sea-based workers.
2. Voluntary Coverage
- Non-Working Spouses: Spouses who manage the household full-time.
- Separated Members: Previously covered members who wish to continue paying contributions.
Step 1: Applying for an SS Number Online
If you do not have an SS number yet, you must use the Online SS Number Issuance Facility.
- Visit the Official Site: Go to www.sss.gov.ph and click “Apply for an SS Number Online”.
- Registrant Record Verification: Input your basic details (Name, Birth Date, and Email). Solve the Captcha and submit.
- Email Activation: Check your inbox for a link from SSS. Important: This link is only valid for five (5) calendar days.
- Complete the Form: After clicking the link, provide your:
- Address and Contact Info.
- Purpose of Registration.
- Beneficiaries (Parents, Spouse, Children).
- Upload Documents: Upload a clear JPEG or PDF (max 3MB) of your Primary ID (e.g., PhilID, Passport, or Driver’s License).
- Generate SS Number: Review your entries and click “Generate SS Number.” You will receive an email containing your SS Number Slip and E-1 Form.
Note: Your status will initially be “Temporary.” To make it “Permanent” and qualify for loans, you must submit/upload valid supporting documents.
Step 2: Creating Your My.SSS Portal Account
Once you have an SS number and at least one (1) posted contribution, you must register for the My.SSS portal.
- Go to the Portal: Access the https://member.sss.gov.ph/member/pbl/register/exec.
- Select Verification Preference: You must choose one of the following eight options to prove your identity:
- Savings Account Number (registered in DAEM).
- Mobile Number registered in SSS.
- UMID Card PIN.
- Employer ID Number.
- Payment Reference Number (PRN).
- Date of Last Loan.
- Transaction Number from your Personal Record Form.
- Check Number of a monthly pension.
- Submit and Activate: After filling out the form, click the activation link sent to your email. This link is valid for 30 calendar days.
- Set Password: Nominate a password (8-20 characters, alphanumeric, no special characters).
What’s New in 2026?
The MySSS Card
The SSS has replaced the old UMID card with the MySSS Card. This is a 2-in-1 tool that serves as a valid government ID and a fully functional bank account for benefit disbursements. You can apply for this card directly through your My.SSS dashboard once your registration is “Permanent.”
2026 Contribution Rates
Starting January 2025, the contribution rate increased to 15%. For employees, the employer pays 10% and the employee pays 5%. For self-employed and voluntary members, the individual pays the full 15%.
Troubleshooting Registration Issues
- Link Expired: If you miss the 5-day window for the SS number or 30-day window for the portal, you must restart the application.
- “No Date of Coverage”: This error usually means your employer has not yet posted your first contribution. You cannot create a portal account until at least one payment is recorded.
- Data Mismatch: Ensure your name and birth date exactly match your birth certificate or National ID. Even a missing hyphen can cause a rejection.
