This timeless masterpiece by Francisco Balagtas, Florante at Laura, features a rich cast of characters. Among the most well-known Florante at Laura characters are Florante, Laura, Aladin, and Flerida, who take on the roles of the story’s main protagonists. Florante

A wise, brave, and strong young man who is a Christian; the son of Duke Briseo and Princess Floresca, and the lover of Laura. He is a Duke who fights for his country and his beloved. Florante symbolizes heroism, resilience, and love for one’s country. He also represents those who suffer but continue to fight for truth and justice.

Laura

The beautiful and kind princess, daughter of King Linceo and the lover of Florante. She was saved by Flerida from the evil hands of Adolfo. Laura symbolizes purity, honor, and true love. Through her character, we see the humility and loyalty of a woman to her beloved despite challenges.

Adolfo

A treacherous and traitorous count who rivals Florante for Laura’s love; the son of Count Sileno. He hides a secret envy for Florante and usurped the throne of King Linceo of Albania. Adolfo symbolizes greed, betrayal, and immorality. He represents those who are willing to destroy and harm others to get what they want.

Aladin

A prince of Persia and the son of Sultan Ali-Adab; a Moor who saved Florante in the forest. He is the lover of Flerida and a character who represents the unity of two different races and faiths. Aladin symbolizes understanding and love that is not limited by religion or culture.

Flerida
